In anticipation of the release of City Club's Redistricting Research Report, NLC is hosting an introductory course on the challenges and controversies of redistricting. Participants will learn about gerrymandering and get a chance to play legislator as they create maps to meet specific goals. If you've ever wondered what the big deal with redistricting is, or want to get a refresher before the release of the report, then this is an hour you won't want to miss.

Questions will focus on Portland history, politics, art... if it's got something to do with Portland, the topic is fair game.

How do consumers make educated decisions when purchasing products? Do companies represent their products ethically and truthfully? Do consumer perceptions of environmentally friendliness really make an impact, or do companies' claims simply frustrate and confuse consumers?

Working to End Youth Homelessness: Tour of Outside In

Started in 1968, Outside In is on the front lines of working to end youth homelessness in Portland. Hear from Executive Director Kathy Oliver about the broad array of services that Outside In offers to youth in need — housing, education, meals, healthcare, employment, and the list goes on. From their medical clinic that practices both western and eastern healthcare and provides syringe exchange program, to their leadership in supporting the growing GLBTQ population, Outside In takes a unique approach in serving 16-24 year olds as they work to transition out of homelessness.

The Portland Water Bureau, in cooperation with the Forest Service, will guide City Club Members on a tour of Portland's primary drinking water supply at Bull Run. City Club's New Leaders Council was able to obtain a coveted weekend date of Saturday August 20th. Come experience the beauty and learn about the science behind Portland's unique drinking water source and processes.
