About Membership

If there is a common denominator among City Club’s diverse membership, perhaps it is this: that the members of City Club want to better our community. By raising awareness, informing members and the community of public matters, and creating dynamic civic dialogue, City Club arouses a sense of obligation to citizenship, and leads to an active, committed community.

Anyone can become a member of City Club. City Club offers a monthly dues payment system. Members can join for only $6.88 (age 30 and under) or $13.75 (age 31 and up) per month. There has never been a better time to join Oregon's most lively forum for discussion and debate on current affairs and issues of civic concern!

Final Fridays are free (with no-host food and drink) and open to the public — and the perfect opportunity to meet other members, including Club leaders, who are more than happy to describe the many opportunities to get involved in City Club and make a difference in our community. Best of all, no RSVP required; just show up and we’ll show you around.

At City Club, you will be face to face with the issues. You can be involved in a variety of Club activities that will increase your awareness and understanding of important issues facing Portland, the nation, and our global community. City Club programs engage Oregonians in full and open discussion of current public policy issues--strengthening community through an informed citizenry.

Friday Forums

The Friday Forum is the hallmark of the City Club of Portland. Broadcast on radio and cable television, this weekly public forum offers members the opportunity to listen to and exchange ideas with speakers who address issues on a wide spectrum of topics, from policy and government to education and the arts.

When City Club was founded, its motto was "harmony through diversity." Over the years, the varied and sometimes controversial speakers gracing our Friday Forum podium have personified that sentiment. From City Club’s regular "state of" speeches by political leaders, to panel discussions on the hottest topics of the day, City Club continues to be Oregon’s premier public affairs forum.

As a City Club member, you may:

  • Attend Oregon’s most respected public affairs forums for free.
  • Receive a $2 discount on Friday Forum luncheon tickets.
  • Borrow any Friday Forum audio or video recording from our extensive historical archive.
  • Access our automated reservation line.
  • Be introduced in front of the Club at a Friday Forum and network with influential civic leaders

Research

Timely, respected and balanced, City Club research continues to be an invaluable source of unbiased information and a force for civic change.

As a City Club member, you may:

  • Conduct the research and write the reports that become part of Oregon history.
  • Discuss committee findings and vote to adopt or reject the recommendations of each report.
  • Become part of City Club advocacy activities.

Publications

New members start receiving the weekly Bulletin within a few days of joining. The Bulletin features upcoming events, Club news, historical tidbits, announcements of current volunteer opportunities and articles about issues of public significance.

City Club members also receive:

  • Club research and information reports.
  • City Club’s membership directory.
  • City Club's annual report.

Leadership Development

Opportunities abound at City Club for committed individuals to assume leadership roles side by side with veteran community leaders. Whether researching a topic or planning a community event, Club members learn about the process and people that affect change in Oregon.

Increase your understanding of the issues affecting Portland, the nation and the global community.

Work with the New Leaders Council, a group which brings together the best and brightest of Portland's young student and professional communities to voice their opinions, research solutions and encourage action.
