Portland’s
“Creative Grid”
Networking Portland’s Creative Institutions
Portland’s
ascendance as a creative center has won worldwide attention.
Continuing this development in a time of shrinking resources
and expanding public needs will require leveraging some
of Portland’s creative capital — creatively.
Tom Manley, president of Pacific Northwest College of Art,
believes this leveraging can be accomplished between the
lines of what he calls the “creative grid” —
less a geographic location than a network of creative institutions,
businesses and individuals that our community already convenes.
When local and regional epicenters of creativity —
places like Ziba Design, Allied Works Architecture, Wieden+Kennedy,
PNCA, Portland Center Stage, Portland Art Museum, and local
universities — are brought into strategic partnerships,
the creative grid is activated and new entrepreneurial energy
and opportunity results.
On May 16, Manley will explore the goals, character and
value of a creative grid, and describe its role in developing
Portland and the wider region. Following Manley’s
presentation, Sohrab Vossoughi, founder and chief creative
officer at Ziba Design, and Brad Cloepfil, founder of Allied
Works Architecture, will offer their perspectives.
