The Unfinished Business of the Baby Boom Generation

Governor John Kitzhaber
Date:
May 29, 2009 - 12:15pm - 1:15pm
Speaker(s):
Governor John Kitzhaber

One of America’s greatest challenges is transitioning to a more sustainable future when so much of today’s economy and way of life remains deeply dependant on policies and practices of the past. This dynamic affects many critical issues including health care, public education, energy and transportation.

On May 29, former governor John Kitzhaber will use the health care crisis to illustrate the danger of adhering to “baby boomer” policies in our rapidly changing world. He will argue that in order to transition successfully to a sustainable economy and lifestyle, Americans must develop a clear vision of the future and a willingness to make great changes to get there.

John Kitzhaber served eight years as Oregon’s governor. A graduate of what was then known as the University of Oregon Medical School, in 2006 he launched The Archimedes Movement to encourage civic solutions to common problems, including the crisis in the U.S. health care system.
