Every 20 seconds an American is newly diagnosed with diabetes, making it the nation’s fastest growing disease. Over 23 million Americans live with this chronic condition at a total expense of more than $174 billion last year. Diabetes impacts all sectors of society, and the burden of this disease goes beyond financial costs to include strained relationships with families and friends and decreased quality of life.

On November 14, as part of American Diabetes Month, Dr. Andrew Ahmann, Chris Dudley and Michael Green – all representatives from OHSU’s Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center – will discuss the staggering numbers behind the diabetes epidemic, identify treatment challenges for different kinds of diabetes and talk about what it means to live and work with diabetes.

Director of the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center at OHSU, Dr. Andrew Ahmann is President of the American Diabetes Association Portland Area Leadership Board and Chair of the Oregon Diabetes Guideline Committee. Michael Green is Former National Chair of the American Diabetes Association. Chris Dudley is a member, along with Michael Green, of the Advisory Board of the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center.
