Sam Adams

Despite its accomplishments in areas such as alternative transportation, sustainability and attracting a creative class, Portland still struggles with some fundamental challenges such as joblessness and underemployment; chronic educational under-achievement; and inequality of opportunity. Portland must address these long-standing issues in order to succeed in the intense global competition of the 21st century.

Join Portland Mayor Sam Adams on February 18 at his annual State of the City address. The mayor will examine the challenges and opportunities facing Portland; provide an overview of the City’s response to the critical issues facing our region; and explain how we might position Portland as an agile city focused on innovation, equity and success.

Prior to his election as mayor in 2008, Adams served as a Portland City Commissioner for four years. He previously served for 11 years as Portland Mayor Vera Katz’s chief of staff.
