Recognizing Community and Keeping it Alive: A Year in the Life of Roosevelt High School
Tamsen Wassell
Come spend an August evening having a barbecue on a deck floating on the Columbia River! With intellectually stimulating and inspiring conversation, and the knowledge that in enjoying yourself so much you are supporting City Club and its mission, how can it get any better than this?
Oregonian columnist Steve Duin was chosen Citizen of the Year and honored in the St John’s annual parade for his many columns that gave voice to the deep and broad community commitment to Roosevelt High School, its students, teachers, administrators and supporters. He will discuss the past year at Roosevelt and what bearing that has on the rest of us when it comes to - in the words of Frederick Buechner - "finding that place where our deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet."
Your hunger will be satiated by barbecue grilled free range chicken, summer vegetables and a seasonal berry dessert. This repast and discussion will be enjoyed on a floating home on the Columbia River. (Please note that a vegetarian option is not available for this Salon.)
