If a great challenge of the 21st century is to achieve both global prosperity and environmental sustainability, our cities – and the majority of the world’s population living in them – must rise to meet that challenge.

Cities around the nation and the world are emulating Oregon’s innovations in sustainability, but how much further do we need to go to become both sustainable and prosperous? Is it even possible to achieve genuine sustainability? Or have we as a species already gone too far? On February 10, Robert Liberty will discuss how Oregon can meet that challenge, and will speculate about what our region could be like in 2062 if we succeed… or if we fail.

Robert Liberty is Executive Director of the Sustainable Cities Initiative at the University of Oregon. He previously served as Metro Councilor, senior counsel to Congressman Earl Blumenauer and executive director of 1000 Friends of Oregon.
