This year, each congressional race makes a difference in deciding which party will hold the House majority come November. Among the disputed seats is Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District, a position not held by a Republican since 1996.

On October 15 at City Club, Democrat Kurt Scrader and Republican Scott Bruun will answer tough questions on unemployment and the economy; social security and Medicare; and education and the environment, among other contentious issues.

Scott Bruun was elected State Representative for Oregon House District 37 in 2004, and reelected in 2006 and 2008. During the 2009 Legislative Session, he served on the House Revenue and House Healthcare committees. Kurt Schrader began serving the public in 1997 when he entered the Oregon House of Representatives. He moved to the State Senate in 2003 where he served as the co-chair of Oregon’s budget committee until his election to Congress in 2008.
