New Leaders Council

New Leaders Council (NLC) promotes civic engagement, education and equity by fostering dialogue and collaboration among young leaders in Portland. NLC is a group of active young (and young-at-heart!) citizens who love this city and work to make it better by finding opportunities for civic involvement that are informative, interactive, and fun!

NLC is organized into three subcommittees: Events, Leadership, and Outreach. NLC members are free to direct their efforts toward one or more of these areas in order to find an area that best fits each member’s interests and to create the greatest impact on Portland and its future.

Events: By focusing on no-to-low cost events featuring community leaders, experts, elected officials and hot topics, NLC's Events subcommittee connects NLC members and friends to the Portland community. The Events subcommittee strives to create relevant and interactive events on topics that feature why we love Portland!

Leadership: The Leadership subcommittee initiated City Club’s Mentorship Program in 2011, which pairs City Club members based on personal or professional interests. This program builds new relationships and connects civically minded mentors and mentees across areas of interest, expertise and experience. At the monthly NLC meeting, the Leadership Spotlight brings in leaders from around the community to speak with the group—from New Season's founder Eileen Brady to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nigel Jacquiss. This is a unique opportunity for NLC members to meet Portland's leaders in a casual and engaging environment.

Outreach: The Outreach subcommittee concentrates on reaching out to young adults to help City club engage diverse new members. They work to connect with other civically-minded organizations and work with those groups to create a vibrant civic life in Portland. Using Facebook and other social media sites, outreach creates an ongoing dialogue about important topics in Portland.
