This week, City Club hosts a forum with Senators Alan Bates (D-Ashland) and Ben Westlund (D-Bend), co-chairs of the Senate Special Committee on Health Care Reform. Bates and Westlund are making health care a top priority in their agendas and are embarking on a 17-stop tour of Oregon, offering their views on health care reform and what the Legislature can do today to address what they term as "a health care crisis."

During the interim, Bates and Westlund cochaired the Senate Commission on Health Care Access and Affordability that produced the framework for Senate Bill 329, which they hope will ensure economically sustainable health care reform. They will also discuss their consideration of other proposals including Senate Bill 27 introduced by former Governor John Kitzhaber and proposals put forth by the Oregon Health Policy Commission and the Small Business Council.

Bates was first elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2000, and in 2004, was elected to the Oregon State Senate. He has been a physician in private practice for more than 20 years. Westlund has served in the Oregon House of Representatives since 1996.

Join us for this Friday Forum as we discuss ways to improve health care for all Oregonians.
