Heart Health
According to the World Health Organization, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world, even though it is often preventable with healthy lifestyle choices such as exercising and maintaining an appropriate weight. For those with heart disease, new surgical options have revolutionized care, allowing people with the condition to live long, high-quality lives.
On May 21, City Club welcomes heart health specialists Dr. Sanjiv Kaul and Dr. Albert Starr. These two physician-scientists will explain why the occurrence of heart disease in Oregon is among the worst in the nation and will share how they propose to reverse that trend. They will address new findings in heart health and discuss the most current treatment and prevention options that are available in Oregon.
Sanjiv Kaul, MD, is Professor of Cardiology, Professor of Medicine, Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. Albert Starr, MD, is Medical Director of the Providence Heart & Vascular Institute, Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University and a graduate of Columbia College Medical School.
