Speaker(s):
Earl Blumenauer

Hope. Change. Yes we can. President-elect Barack Obama built his campaign around these three concepts. What kinds of changes, if any, can American’s realistically hope for from the new administration?

On December 5, City Club welcomes Congressman Earl Blumenauer to discuss what the new Obama administration and enhanced Democratic majority mean for Oregon and the rest of the nation. The Congressman will address how to renew economic stability in the face of a declining global economy, federal bailouts and a downwardly spiraling housing market. Other topics might include global warming, mass transportation and job creation.

Congressman Earl Blumenauer (Ore-3) first served in the Oregon House of Representatives in 1972 and from there went on to be a Multnomah County Commissioner and Portland City Council member. Elected to the US House of Representatives in 1996, the Congressman is a member numerous committees including the new Select Committee on Energy Independence and Climate Change. Congressman Blumenauer’s academic training includes undergraduate and law degrees from Lewis and Clark College in Portland.
