Building a Bright Future In Washington County
Washington County’s foresighted economic development plan is laying a strong foundation for recovery from the nation’s current economic crisis. In addition to its long relationship with industry-defining businesses like Intel, the county has recently attracted next-generation companies such as SolarWorld. Businesses such as these enhance the region not only by generating new jobs and tax revenue, but also through donations to community organizations and educational programs.
On May 8, Washington County Chair Tom Brian will discuss the relationship between county prosperity and business growth and how that relationship informs the county’s approach to the current economic climate. Jill Eiland, corporate affairs manager at Intel, will detail Intel’s collaborative partnerships with, and investments in, the community — notably in education. Finally, Gordon Brinser, vice president of SolarWorld Industries America, will outline how President Obama’s mandate to re-orient the nation’s energy policy has positioned Washington County as a front-runner in the drive for renewable and sustainable energies.
