Speaker(s):
Tom Potiowsky, Oregon State Economist
Speaker(s):
Timothy Duy, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics, University of Oregon

Though no longer officially in a recession, Oregon continues to struggle with high unemployment, a sluggish housing market and – depending on the outcome of the votes for Measures 66 and 67 – a potential $700 million dollar hole in the state budget.

On January 15, City Club welcomes Tom Potiowsky, Oregon State Economist and Timothy Duy, Director of the University of Oregon Economy Forum, for a discussion of Oregon’s economic future. Mr. Potiowsky will provide a broad overview of Oregon’s economic outlook for the coming year. Mr. Duy will specifically assess how Portland compares to other cities of its size, if the “creative class” really contributes to the local economy and whether or not Portlanders should be content with recent economic trends.

Tom Potiowsky is the director of Oregon’s Office of Economic Analysis, where he is responsible for developing state economic and demographic forecasts and estimating general fund revenues for the state. Timothy Duy is adjunct assistant Professor and Director for the Oregon Economic Forum at the University of Oregon Department of Economics, where he focuses on macroeconomics, monetary policy and local and regional economics.
