East Portland Represent!

Forty percent of Portland's youth live in East Portland. It is also the most diverse and rapidly growing section of the city-- and yet-- residents of East Portland are more likely to live in poverty and they are less likely to live near frequent public transit or a city park than most other areas of the City. Feelings of inequality run deep and are reflected in a recent petition advocating for East Portland to secede from the rest of the city and another calling to change the City's Council to geographically-based districts. These sentiments have been validated in a recent city audit and in the council's statements that we must do better by East Portland.

What would "better" East Portland look like and how do we get there?

Join Eric Zimmerman, chief of staff to Multnomah County Commissioner Diane McKeel, East Portland community activist Arlene Kimura, PSU doctoral candidate Jamaal Green, and the City Club’s Government and Public Policy Committee in a lively discussion as we explore what should be done to bring representational equity to East Portland.
